"There’s something in the collection which means a lot to everyone who’s worked on it“ – Demna Gvasalia
This statement of former Vetements designer Gvasalia contains the essence of what I transfered into my series. Aside from the unique aesthetics presented in the Vetements SS16 collection, combining ironic statements, oversized and raw looks, highlighting the beauty in uglyness and destruction, I was particularly inspired by the emotional component in this collection. Gvasalia referenced plastic table cloths as an ode to his grandmother, creating a direct link to his subjective memories.
Naturally it felt right tho choose my grandfathers old wardrobe shortly after loosing him and dissolving his household. I then deformed the garments by abstractly draping them on my good friend Fraenze, a former model who dropped out of the industry after geting tired of the unrealistic relation of body and personality created in fashion.
She intuitively reflected my emotions of loss, nostalgia and self control toward the subject.
